Web 2.0 is the new collaborative and social capabilities of the World Wide Web. This includes news worthy software applications such as Wikis; facebook; twitter and YouTube. These new collaborative and social capabilities enable new types of business process and new ways of performing business functions. Web 2.0 offers the opportunity to evolve the organizational means of communication, collaboration and knowledge management.
Web2.0 is often called the “digital water cooler” since, employees find and create ad-hoc internal collaborations. Identification and location of previously unknown internal resources is typically one of the most important benefit of Web2.0 technology. Web2.0 wiki capability is frequently superior for organizing on-line discussion when compared to email threads. Recent Web 2.0 implementations in the federal sector have reported similar limitations. Implementers all to frequently take a ”build it and they will come” attitude, assuming the presence of the technology will result in proper use. As with any software technology, Web2.0 implementation must be driven by business requirements.
Web 2.0 implementation must have a value proposition to demonstrate how the technology will improve business operations. >
